Paul Henry Ramirez - Paper Variable 2007
Paul Henry Ramirez
Licks, 2007
Watermarked handmade paper, screen-print, and laser-cut handmade paper
29 1/2 x 19 inches
Dieu Donné is pleased to announce a new edition by Paul Henry Ramirez. Licks is an edition of 100 variable artworks in handmade paper.
This remarkable edition was produced using a wide array of both traditional, hands-on methods and advanced digital techniques. This work was the artist’s first exploration of handmade paper. The project began with a drawing by Ramirez that Dieu Donné artistic staff digitized in order to create a vinyl watermark that would be cut by sign fabricators. The watermarked paper was “blown-out” with a hose by hand and combined with additional layers of pink and orange handmade paper. Three colors of silkscreened paint and two laser-cut “drips” were then developed to complete the work’s complex visual arrangement of squirts, hairs, and juicy swirls.
