Black Flowers with Rainbow Colors, 2006
Cotton base sheet with cotton pulp painting and screenprint
18 x 24 inches

Dieu Donné is pleased to announce a new edition by Nina Bovasso. Black Flowers with Rainbow Colors is an edition of 100 variable artworks in handmade paper.

Nina's image was created with layers of stenciled pulp paint and screen-printing. First, a base sheet of off-white pigmented cotton was pulled and couched. Working with 26 different colors of cotton pulp paint, three separate stencils were used. Each pulp paint color was given a number, as each hole in the stencil was given a corresponding number. Each stencil was laid onto the base sheet and its proper pulp paint color was poured into its opening. After each stencil was used and pulled up, the piece was lightly blotted with interfacing to bond the layer of thin cotton pulp paint to the base sheet. Once all three stencils were used, the paper was then pressed and dried. The artist worked with printer James Miller and Lower East Side Printshop to create the black silk-screened flowers corresponding to the pulp painting.
