About the Artists
JULMstudios is a collaboration between Jason Urban & Leslie Mutchler. Working in Brooklyn, their practice is project-based and research-intensive. Most recently, they have employed an art practice of pseudo-bibliology through the study of books, printing & publishing. Their projects investigate the evolving meaning of printed matter and the "sacred spaces" it occupies, always aware of the increasingly common shift from analog to digital technologies in our day to day. The pair has had solo exhibitions at NARS Foundation (Brooklyn, NY), Grizzly Grizzly (Philadelphia, PA), The Print Center (Philadelphia, PA), Centre for FIne Print Research (Bristol, UK), Space Gallery (Portland, ME), Atelier Circulaire (Montreal, Can).
Leslie Mutchler received her MFA from Tyler School of Art at Temple University and a BFA from Kent State University. Mutchler is currently chair of the Foundation Department at Pratt Institute, New York.
Jason Urban has a MA/MFA from the University of Iowa and a BFA from Kutztown University. He is the recipient of a Creative Capital Arts Writers Grant and a Curatorial Stipend from the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, New York. Urban co-founded Printeresting.org and regularly writes for the journal Art in Print.
