In collaboration with Paul Wong, AJ Bocchinio worked on large and small-scale, intricately watermarked sheets of pigmented abaca and cotton, to colonize the logos of major corporations. Through categorization of color and scale, Bocchino relates the top fifty most profitable corporations, as cited in the Forbes 2000 list to that of the time consuming, handmade, delicate yet accessible material of paper in which it is made. Collecting corporate logos form the Internet and using them to generate his work, AJ analyzes mass media through this intricate process of record keeping. Pristinely watermarked, Bocchino’s brightly pigmented sheets depict a competitive systemization that is also color-coded by country.

About the Artist
AJ Bocchino (b. 1974) received a BFA from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1996 and a MFA from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia in 2000. He has been an artist-in-residence at Urban Glass, NY, the Artist in the Marketplace Program at the Bronx Museum, NY, and a Marie Sharpe Studio Program Recipient, NY. He has had solo exhibitions at White Columns, NY, Hemphill Fine Arts, .00156 Acres, among others.
