Lesley Dill
Collector's Series 2009

Dieu Donné is pleased to offer the Collector's Series, an annual handmade paper edition of fifty by renowned contemporary artists to benefit the artist residency programs at Dieu Donné. The fourth installment in the series is a new work by Lesley Dill titled Rapture's Germination, produced in collaboration with Paul Wong.

This work possesses an ethereal atmosphere that is reminiscent of wintery landscapes. As the artist explains, the work is very much about the color silver. "As someone who grew up in Maine, silver is often the color of the sky as well as the water as well as the winter ground. I think of this color as a lake of iridescence, an internal place where ideas spring to mind."

Ms. Dill worked closely with artistic director Paul Wong to develop an extremely luminous piece. The project begins by couching a silver-pigmented linen sheet onto a base sheet of blended abaca and kozo. The sheets are pressed, and the exposed silkscreen is registered on top of the sheet. Linen pulp paint is pushed through the coarse silkscreen onto the base sheet of silver, and the sheet is pressed once more and dried. The hand-cut collage element is applied to the completed work.

For more information about how to acquire this piece or join the subscription series, please contact Rebecca Lax at (212) 226-0573 ext 203.
